The Student Dental Business Organization (or SDBO, as we call it), was created with one goal in mind: to help teach dental students the ins and outs of running a successful practice, and to give them opportunities to network, hone their leadership skills, and find their purpose in the world of dentistry.

Why SDBO?

It’s not shocking that dental school teaches students how to become dentists, but what may be shocking is the lack of business education in dental programs. This lack of education leaves many graduates in the dark when it comes to starting their own practice from scratch, acquiring an existing one, or even becoming a practice partner. For these students, joining a DSO as an associate often feels like the only option, (and if that’s your goal, you do you!).

That’s where SDBO comes in. We’re here to show you that there are other options out there. Practice ownership offers a degree of freedom unheard of in most other medical professions, and can be deeply fulfilling in more ways than one – but it does take hard work and dedication, and requires knowledge about how to run a business.

SDBO is a student-run organization with local and national chapters that hold events featuring some of the industry’s top minds, and provides members with access to powerful resources, including discounts on books and continuing education programs. As a member, you’ll have the opportunity to forge new connections and set yourself up for success in your dental career.
